In windows are all files with an extension ".exe" or ".com" programs. As a winboard engine it runs a little bit better because book learning and positioning learning isn't possible with the uci protocoll. If you want to try it as a winboard engine you can for excample use freeware GUIs like Winboard or Arena. If you are a computer newbie than it's better you try Arena, because it's very easy to install the engine under this GUI (you don't need to edit a textfile like in winboard) and Arena has a lot more functions. This GUI is in a lot of points not far away from a commercial GUI and it supports both protocolls Winboard and UCI, connection to chessservers and a lot more. here the download links: Arena http://www.playwitharena.com/ Winboard http://www.tim-mann.org/chess.html and here some other helpful links: http://home.hccnet.nl/leo.dijksman/index.html (informations about all winboard engines) http://www.uciengines.de/index.html (informations about all uci engines) http://www.chesskit.com/aarontay/Winboard/Winboard.html (Winboard FAQ by Aaron Tay) http://f11.parsimony.net/forum16635/ (the forum for winboard engines) I hope this helps. have a nice day Andreas
