Actually I believe it can work.

Having a Saitek Autoboard I met the same problem as smartboard users (direct
access to the printer port addresses is not allowed by NT/2000/XP) but I have
found a small program that installs a driver which allows exactly that. At least
for the autoboard it works fine.
