Subject: Junior5 "welcome tournament" game 2

I was asked, why I do not use the original Junior book for testing.
Maybe I will use it as well, but not necessarily so.

Three reasons:
a) As my testgames and server games on ICC showed me, Junior5 needs no special
book any more. It's tactical skills are comparable to those of Fritz5, and it's
positional understanding is better.
So any high quality book will do.

b) It's not only interesting, but also quite entertaining to see Junior play any
kinds of popular GM openings without any restrictions. I even changed the book
settings for more variable play and less stress on rigid book-learning. This may
be important for SSDF rating points, but I personally find a restricted
repertoire or repetition of certain games simply boring, while playing quite a
wide (though good) repertoire tells me much more about a program.

c) These games are not performed for statistics, but solely for fun in chess,
thus getting a first impression of *how* a new program plays (and not just: how
successful). Many of the Junior5 games I have seen so far are quite beautiful,
and looking at some while playing is somehow like looking TV to me ... :-)

The second game against Genius5 was a razor sharp Sicilian.

Genius5 had some disadvantage being out of book in move 18 after a (sound)theory
exchange sacrifice from black, while Junior had the powerbook to move 20. After
that, one single bad decision from Genius, namely 20.g6?, led to a sharp black
attack winning the game. Anyway it is nice to see how Junior with King in the
centre and dangerously open h-file played the counter-attack against the white
king, finally winning with two long steps from its queen (Qa8-c3). Although
perhaps many other programs would have played similar or even identical with
black in that position. Perhaps you can recheck that, if you like...
