Go up one level in this thread

It you check the history of computer cpu launch dates .... You will see the
truth .... InteL was the King of bringing products to the market ontime ... that
was the thing that made them successful. It wasn't until Intel start getting up
in speed and the process dropped to the .18 level is when they started having
problems. But with all the success that Intel has had they were able to build
new Fab's. These new fab's has put Intel in a great position with their
Manufacturing process. Both Intel and AMD really believe that they can bring
the process to market at times they announce ... but so many thats can effect
the process. So when we get down to the .13 level ... I believe AMD is seeing
manufacturing problems unlike they never seen before. I know Intel has spent
Billion's on their new fab's. AMD on the other hand was just getting going and
has a great product and idea's ... but with out these new fab's that elimate
human intervention, its also impossible to get your yields up to a level that's
cost effect. AMD is caught between a rock and a hard place. If they had the
cash to build these new fab's I have no doubt they will be able to bring their
product to the market in time. Intel on the other had ... has the new fab's and
you are seeing that they are able to get their product to the market on time.
He that gets to the market first win's. When cpu's are produced their are
hundreds on a single waffer ... but no one knows what the speeds are until the
bench test them. Some out of the hundred may only have a few high speed chips.
So thats when the tweaking of the process comes into place. Also without having
a fab thats virtually humanless, its like impossible to keep from killing good
die. AMD needs these new fab's in order to be competitive at the .13 levels and
below.
