Kramnik says a lot of things that everyone should take with a grain of salt. My personal favorite is how he says that Fritz is clearly stronger than Deep Blue. Maybe it is, maybe it's not (I happen to think it's not), but the only thing that is clear is that it's not clear which is stronger. Kramnik's reasoning is that Fritz played objectively better moves than Deep Blue did. What if Deep Blue found a nice incredibely deep combination? Of course Kramnik isn't going to see that, nor Fritz on a PC. And of course it serves Kramnik's best interests to say that Fritz is better. That way if he loses, well, he lost to something better than Deep Blue, can't blame a guy for that. If he wins, well, he beat the best computer in history. Even if Fritz wasn't as strong, it's not like Kramnik is going to admit that. Russell
