If you just started to play chess, I would estimate that against club players you would be well under 1000 ELO. Online players are usually not as good as club players, at least that has been my experience. I win a lot of games online, but at the club I struggle to get an even score. >Similarily, some ELO ranges for different levels of skill/experience would be >helpful e.g. absolute beginner, average club player, good club player etc. If you really want a breakdown of this, this is covered in a decent amount of depth in Everyone's Second Chess Book by NM Dan Heisman. He talks about different rating classes, starting with 100 I think, and he talks about what that level of player is capable of. He talks about how absolute beginners can't always remember the names of the pieces, then the next level up can remember the names, but can't remember how they move, etc. It's interesting. Russell
