Ruffian - a new chess program of the top class

Chapter 4: from a pupil becomes a master

Just I wrote that me in Ruffian everything reminds somehow of Fritz, not only
the style of play, but even the game strength. What is so fascinating,
therefore, and originally in Ruffian? Few days ago (Sept. World champion
Vladimir Kramnik an interview gave 02) in he said: " It is not important to have
a good teacher - it is to be been importantly a good pupil ". Who does not know
it yet, to that is lower said that nobody than Gary Kasparov, Kramniks the
biggest chess teacher was. And who is today the world champion? Kramnik! At the
beginning of the article I wrote the sentence: " A comet hits ". Besides, I
remembered tennis player Boris Becker who could win in 1985 as 17-year-old and
youngest all times, the biggest competition of the world: Wimbledon! He defeated
in the final K. Curren, among other things with fantastic impacts and the famous
Becker pike! One named him, therefore, also Bum-Bum Boris. He started in the
competition as a No 100, and some time later after the competition, he already
belonged to the top - Ten of the world! However, he had Boris Becker a good
teacher was also a good pupil.

What concerns the computer chess scene, the programmer of Ruffian has understood
it also very well, many colleges of technology use the top programs and
professionals efficiently to do his(its) own! These colleges of technology by no
means are secretly (nobody the wheel has invented again), but it is a matter of
applying them(her) effectively as only possibly! Before some time there were
consulting hours in the Internet with the top programmer Stefan Meyer-Kahlen. He
answered to the question what is the most important difference between
professionals and amateurs among other things in a general manner so: " the
professionals can to all a little bit better ". Ex-world champion Karpov on the
question said a similar saying what puts out the difference of a world champion
to a good Grand Master. He answered: " The world champion can everything a
little better ". It is not about a new thing, but about the fact that one can
them(her) better than other! Up to now it was so that have succeeded only
completely few programmers in achieving in short time bigger progresses with
their(her) programs. A small elite class had formed which dominated up to now
the computer chess scene. No amateur's programmer has succeeded since 1996 (as
mentioned) again in doing such a fast jump that he could mix together with the
elite programmers.

Now Ruffian, however, clobbers strongly, now he is already able in the first
available version to defeat every professional! Does not fascinating? My answer
louder Yes!

Ruffian controls the most important colleges of technology just well as Fritz,
and is possibly as fast therefore. For the implementing other chess knowledge
without losing speed, is enough free space there. The strong of Ruffian lie
unambiguously in the positionellen area as well as in the final, without the
tactical weight of punch gets lost - here is Ruffian to the professional
Shredder consider! With the king's safety it gets stuck with Ruffian still here
and there, however, for it Ruffian can cling like no other program, like a
panther to the opposing king, as well he is in the final if once he starts
running not to brake any more. This dynamism is his(its) brand name!

Followers two final examples illustrate to us this dynamism which can put
Ruffian to the day:

Gandalf 5.1 - Ruffian 1.0

6k1 / p5p1 / 4r3 / 1p3Q2 / 1Pb5 / 3p2PP / 3K4 / 8 b - - 0 95

Without having to consider long, Ruffian threshed his(its) a farmer forwards
with a7-a5 here! To create two free farmers, the white lady was powerless
afterwards. Splendidly played, and in addition still quickly. After my previous
experiences, Ruffian possesses special strong particularly in tower finals.
E.g., he reels the following position without to consider, also without final
data banks perfectly runter, in addition even with the appreciation of 0.00!

Ruffian 1.0 - genius 3

Already after sek. Ruffian shows a clear plus for itself, and is not to be
stopped any more! Many other programs would probably also win this position,
however, I would like to illustrate the dynamism with the Ruffian here to works
goes!

The same position analyzes with Fritz 7.008:

Fritz 7 - Ruffian 1/0/0
8/1p2p1k1/6p1/3P2Pp/4nP2/1pr1N2P/4K3/1R 6 b - - 0 1

To it with master Fritz dawns (if actually?) Ruffian is already about all
clouds. Now Ruffian is even a master, and Fritz, but other professional also
gives here, so some lesson! Here the complete portion to the sequel, they(she)
points with which dynamism Ruffian can set to work. Anyhow, for me it has been
fascinating to watch Ruffian with the game!
