Microsoft has a gigantic material advantage over linux distributors, and even unix distributors like Sun. If linux or anyone else poses a serious threat to MS, it can just give back a little of it's material advantage, probably in the form of even more mass advertising, paying vendors to pre-install Windows, etc. It will cost them more money, but they have a lot to spend. Maybe if MS has to "give back a little material" enough times then others could be competitive. The other option is that the government could always come along and smash up MS for being a monopoly, since they are always gaining more power and pushing others out of the market. Russell
