Subject: Chess Tiger 15 experiences

I am quite impressed with CT15. This seems to be an extremely strong program
and has been well worth the wait. Undoubtedly, more a labor of love than a need
to meet marketing expectations.

My first experiences were similar to other posts here. I don't have identical
machines which use an autoplayer, so I must use my AMD 1700+ and the Engine
Research Tool that comes with Chess Partner. My first match was CT15 and
Ruffian 1.0.1 using a 5 minute + 3 second time control. CT15 lost the 10 game
match by one point. I then played several other matches with these two engines
using a variety of quick time controls and every time Ruffian won by a small
margin. I was disappointed. How could CT15 lose to a free engine? I then
played many more matches with a variety of other winboard and UCI engines and
these two always came out the winners. I decided to match them again at 2
minutes + 2 seconds. This time CT15 won easily! Either CT15 was getting better
or my original impression (secondary impression?) was based on too small a
sample of games. In subsequent similar matches CT15 has continued to dominate
Ruffian.

I don't know enough about the Engine Research Tool to say what impact its method
of implementing matches has on these results compared to using two identical
machines. I am impressed, however, at the quality of play the CT15 has shown
lately. And, of course, it takes a strong opponent to bring out the best in an
engine.

I enjoy the Chess Partner interface and have had no problems with this version,
but I wish I could play CT15 on the Chessbase server and see what happens
against all of the Fritzes out there.

In any case I would like to thank Mr. Theron for creating such an entertaining
and accurate chess program.
