I don't think that computerchess has much to do with AI. there is no AI in a chess program. Its only clever programming. And i don't see where there is ANY research coming to a significant result in computerchess doing AI. There have been efforts, but they failed. Today computerchess is mainly (IMO) different than academic. its a job. or if you don't earn money, a hobby. but science ? academic field?? there is no AI in chess. or ? Or do you know any chess program that is intelligent ? please name it and its successes against other programs. >Research conducted in computer chess has to follow the scientific guidelines, no >less than a research conducted in physics. In opposite to Rolf, Bob has done scientific research in computerchess. And his project is completely OPEN and visible for anybody. This is what i would call scientific. What Rolf is doing, is IMO gossip. Since when is gossip an academic field or AI ?
