Subject: "Nunn"-sense

Author: Moritz Berger

To contribute to the ongoing debate about relative playing strength of chess
engines, I will repost the set of "Nunn" positions as proposed by GM John Nunn
to compare different chess programs.

How to use them:
1. Load the final position of each game in 2 chess programs.
2. Disable opening books in both programs.
3. Let both programs play the game from the final position of each of the 10
games below (resulting in 20 games total for each pairing)

(4. optional) repeat experiment with different hardware, different programs,
different time controls

(5. optional) mail results to moritz.berger@uumail.de since I plan to do a Nunn
webpage with as many results as possible. Please include exact descriptions of
program version used, hash table settings, processor speed (2nd level cache
size, RAM type [EDO, SDRAM, ...]). Also important is whether you used 2 machines
(with permanent brain enabled for both programs) or did a Fritz/Winboard engine
match. Testing 2 programs on the same machine is not recommended except in a
common environment like Fritz that also controls ressource usage by both
engines. But this is clearly not the best choice, so please use 2 PCs if you
can.

Moritz
