Just finished installing the download version of CT15 from the lokasoft site. I must say the included Chesspartner 5.2 gui is better than I had expected. Having only used the Chessbase/Fritz gui before, I was a little apprehensive about using a new interface. Although the Chessparter gui doesn't have as much "eye candy" as Chessbase, it is still impressive none the less. It has more of a Microsoft Windows feel to it. Having played around with some of the options and settings, I have several questions about various features. 1. I can't find an option to optimize the opening book. Maybe this is just a Chessbase thing, but I would really like to know I'm using the best book options available. The only book options I could find were: Variation (set at 50% default) and Learning Strength (also set at 50% default). Common sense tells me to set Variation to 0% and Learning Strength to 100% for maximum book performance, but I have to wonder why these settings are not the default. 2. Chessbase has an Optimize Strength feature that will set up the program for best performance. I don't see this option in the Chesspartner gui. Is CT15 already set up for best performance? Does this have to be done manually? 3. The downloaded version was only 15MB in size. Therefore the opening book is very small. Only a few megabytes, unlike Fritz7 which is over 200MB in size! How can CT15's relatively tiny opening book be as good as Fritz7's huge book? 4. When looking in the CT15 engine folder, the only endgame tablebases there are the 3 man. No 4 or 5 man like the features list stated. Should I add the 4 man tb's in the folder as well? I've already downloaded all the 5 man tb's, and have them in another location with the path listed in CT15's directory. 5. Last but not least, since the increment time setting does not work properly, what is the best way to play a manual game against another computer using ficher time controls. For example, if the time settings are 10/10 should I set my time control to 15/0, 20/0, 25/0 or what? It is very difficult to judge what time setting will be the most effecient. Overall, the Chess Tiger 15/Chessparter Gui package is very immpressive. I strongly recommend you give it a try.
