That is why I said that with all the time that >>Kramnik had to pratice, with the actual program, he should be ashame by simply >>playing for a draw with black. > >PS: Did you noticed how fast Kramnik replied to Deep Fritz, it is obviously a >game that he rehearsed move by move previously. re PS: kramnik just happens to know the berlin better than anybody or anything else in the world. so he moves fast because he knows the position, so what? you don't seem to understand how grandmasters prepare for matches in general, and how that might be different for a computer: very generally, top grandmasters are always happy with a draw as black, particularly in a match. kramnik is a great pragmatist. if he realizes that he has an easy draw by playing the berlin as black, he will do it. all he needs to win this match is 4.5 points, and he is the kind of chess player who is perfectly happy with that kind of result (unlike kasparov or fischer or van wely or many others, who will fight for every point). he has 4 games as white, and he will try there. if you look at recent GM-computer matches, you will see that the GMs had a very hard time as black, while they usually had a very good time as white. so kramnik's strategy should be quite clear: get draws as black as easily as possible (and it's looking good in this department), and try to win with the white pieces. the rules of the match are such that there is nothing "in it" for kramnik to play for a win in all games! there is no more money to be won by winning 8-0 than 4.5-3.5, which is why he will not try too hard with black unless he fails to win in his first 2 or 3 white games. besides, assume that kramnik had actually found ways to beat fritz 8-0. do you really think he would do it? and expose the company which provides him with lots of publicity and lots of money to the ridicule of the world? finally, AFAIK, the opening book of fritz can be changed, so kramnik couldnt really prepare games "move by move". aloha martin
