Subject: Larry Christiansen on top of his game even though he lost to CM 9000

Forgive me if this is a little off topic, but i thought it was kind of an
appropiate follow up to Larry's recent match with Chessmaster 9000!

There was a comment made on an earlier post claiming Larry Christiansen was
getting old and he considered him a weak player because his USCF Rating is 2642
and his FIDE Rating is only 2578 which isn't in the FIDE 2600 range to be in the
top 100 in the World. This person said a FIDE Rating is much stronger than a
comparable USCF rating which i found to be false in top level Grandmaster chess.
I did a quick comparison of two well know Grandmasters and here are the results:

Judit Polgar: USCF 2648, FIDE 2676 = FIDE rating only 28 points stronger
Yasser Seirawan: USCF 2690, FIDE 2640 = USCF rating is 50 points stronger!!

These fairly recent acomplishments i feel Larry still deserves to be respected
and is far from being a weak player!

In the past 2 months on "World Chess Network" Larry was pretty active. He has
played against various well known Grandmasters from all parts of the world.
He played 26 games with a time control of 25 minutes per side and his total
score up to now is a terrific 18.5 to 7.5

Larry recently played Chessmaster 9000 but even though he lost the match with a
final score of 2.5 to 1.5 in favor of CM9000, he missed a win in his one game.
But what can you expect with a time control of only 2 minutes + 120 seconds per
move, plus he didn't have CM9000 to play so he could get a little familiar with
it's style and opening database. Another point, he played 2 games per day all in
a row which certainly takes it's toll on you plus, he didn't choose to play
anti-computer chess. So my point on this match with CM9000 is that Larry did a
pretty good job under the circumstances and you certainly must give alot of
credit to Chessmaster 9000 for it's "wonderful accomplishment" to be able to
beat a very good player such as Larry Christiansen!

Here is some more nice accomplishments Larry Christiansen achieved:

"Larry is a 3 times USA Champian"

"Christiansen again Wins USA Chess Championship!

World Chess Network star Larry Christiansen has won the $200,000 US Chess
Championship, in a dramatic tie-breaking showdown with fellow WCN Grandmaster
Nick de Firmian. The championship, which featured 18 Grandmasters and 13
International Masters, was held in Seattle, Washington from January 4-13, 2002.

In a 9-game sprint to the finish, Christiansen cruised through the early
competition with defeats over top GM's John Fedorowicz and Alexander Shabalov.

Regards,
      Terry
