Subject: Chess Program Prsonalities - particularly in Beowulf

Hello - I wonder if anyone can help me please.

I am attemting to conduct a university study into the creation of chess engine
persoanlities and the effect it has on the user's game playing experience. I
would like to use a chess program such as Beowulf for this as I see it has a
method of creating personalities in a file that can be easily referenced in the
config file at startup.

Basically - can anyone provide information on this please - I am a newbee to the
world of computer chess but I find it fascinating! I would appreciate any form
of explanation of how these personalities are created and what the values
actually mean e.g.

5 ; person.back_rank_unsafe
4 ; person.backward_pawn_1

Is there any form of documentation or list of values out there that would
explain what each of these "variables" does?

I would be very greatful for any help.

Thank you.

Eric.
