I understand your points, and I don't at all consider Larry a weak player -- I admire him. However, I'm a little puzzles as to why he hadn't played CM9000; nowhere was it stated (for the public, at least) that he couldn't play it before hand. He himself (as far as I know, at least) said he hadn't played CM since 6000. A lot of people are boo-hooing the Kramnik match because Kramnik received a copy of Deep Fritz before the match, whereas in the Kasparov v Deep Blue match, Kasparov obviously couldn't play Deep Blue ahead of time, nor could he study Deep Blue games. The point that I'm getting at is preparedness is key; people are critical of Deep Blue because this was taken away from Kasparov. People are critical of Kramnic because it is perhaps too much. But in the CM vs GM match, it seems a mystery that Larry didn't take advantage of preparing himself thoroughly, which seems to be a big mistake. Brian
