The general "feeling" is that it seems to make the machine behave like it is
30-50% faster
on average.  So it might help in some cases.  But chess is different, and using
two threads on
a hyper-threaded CPU looks dangerous for reasons I have given in the past
dealing with
running more threads than actual CPUs.
