Hi Uri,

I don't underestimate Kramnik at all but I think he still had a little way to go
given the clock situation and that he was playing a computer which I assume is
not 'aware' of its opponent's impending time problems. However, the DF team may
well have been aware of this and I always find it disappointing when a human
makes a decision for a computer as to when to draw or resign.

If it's truly a man vs machine event then human interference, on behalf of the
computer, should be kept to a bare minimum. Deep Fritz has resign settings of
Early, Late and Never and it should have been up to DF to 'decide' when to
resign, if it all!, and not the team. I don't think DF was allowed to resign on
its own. Your point about convincing other people who do not understand the end
position/plan is a valid one and I would go further to say that those watching
would be more convinced if Kramnik had beaten DF without intervention.

So my point, which I didn't make clear in my first post, is not to test whether
Kramnik will blunder or not but to have the computer play against Kramnik with
all its ignorance about clocks and when to resign etc and not have another human
decide this.

Humans should expect no mercy in respect of having to play out until checkmate
or the 50 move rule kicks in if that's the way the program has been written!

If DF did resign on its own then I will happily salute it!

Best wishes

Matthew
