Until the Deep Blue vistory in 1997, computer chess was the jewel in the crown of AI research. But thereafter, many researchers just lost any interest in the field saying computers have proved to be better than humans, and have achieved the historical scientific milestone. For the sake of computer science, I can't hide my appreciation of Fritz's catastrophic losses, since that will prove that humans are still superior to computers. This will yield a renewed incentive for trying improve chess playing programs, and will hopefully restore computer chess' deserved repsect, among computer science disciplines. Omid.
