Additional issues:

Linux users are used to getting everything free, from the operating system to
compilers to entire GIS systems.  Why pay for something?  Why pay for anything?
Linus himself declares that it is immoral to sell software.

Linux users are not afraid of applications like SCID or Xboard.  PC users are
(for the most part) techophobic.  The people here are an exception, so don't
chime in about how you compile chess programs from scratch.  Grandma (for the
most part) won't be doing that.
