i just searched in chessbase for games similar to game 3 of DF-kramnik. i found this as the closest match: Magem Badals,J (2528) - Kovalev,A (2400) [C45] Eu Team Ch Batumi GEO (6), 05.12.1999 1.e4 e5 2.Sf3 Sc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Sxd4 Lc5 5.Sxc6 Df6 6.Dd2 dxc6 7.Sc3 Se7 8.Df4 Le6 9.Dxf6 gxf6 10.Sa4 Lb4+ 11.c3 Ld6 12.Le3 b6 13.f4 0-0-0 14.Kf2 c5 15.c4 Sc6 16.Sc3 f5 17.exf5 Lxf5 18.Td1 The8 19.Sd5 Sb4 20.a3 Sc2 21.Lc1 Sd4 22.Le3 c6 23.Sc3 Lg4 24.Td3 Lf8 25.h3 Lf5 26.Td1 Sc2 27.Txd8+ Kxd8 28.Ld2 h5 29.Le2 h4 30.Lf3 Kc7 31.g4 hxg3+ 32.Kxg3 Lg7 33.Lh5 Td8 34.Lc1 Td3+ 35.Kf2 Ld4+ 36.Ke2 Lxc3 37.bxc3 Txc3 38.Lxf7 Sd4+ 39.Kd1 Lc2+ 40.Ke1 Le4 41.Ld2 Sf3+ 42.Ke2 Sxd2 43.Kxd2 Td3+ 44.Ke2 Td7 0-1 (sorry for the german abbreviations, but i hope they are clear) the end of the game may or may not have been time trouble. but looking it over briefly, and looking at chessbase statistics, i don't like the whole 10. Na4 & 11. c3 business, with black getting lots of activity. according to the stats in chessbase, 10. Bd2 has a much better score (less games though). although the brainsinbahrain site claims fritz had a clear opening advantage, i am not too certain. it seems this line has all been played before, and kramnik must have known what he was doing. anyway, given this game, and the other opening trouble in the first two games, i am wondering a bit about the DF book. does anybody know: - is alex kure the sole author of the DF book? - if no, who is helping and how? - how good is kure at chess? it just seems to me that the DF team has not made too good a job of selecting book lines. kramnik is getting the positions he wants more or less at will up to now. aloha martin
