The Spiegel article you quoted is indeed quite ugly, agreed. But look at what
members of the DB team are spreading: "we did all of this and that sophisticated
thing 5 years ago" "a slowed down version (to a crawl) of our program beat X
commercial programs" "DB was searching 25+17 ply" (you realize I am
exaggerating).
IMHO chessbase has the right to fight back.

I have built my own sand-castle on the shoulder of giants, yes. It plays some
chess variants quite well. It also plays chess now. Meaning it knows the rules
:).
