Believe it or not, I've also already done that.  There is a registry setting you
can make that has Device Manager show even more hidden things that it does when
you only check "Show hidden devices".  I killed off EVERYTHING that wasn't
current but so far so bad.

This will be my next try!

(I bought the PCI 2.0 card because I got a real bargain -- $10 -- and don't have
an immediate need to install it.  And I got the FireWire card for free and don't
really need it either, although I use a lot of FireWire devices on my Mac and it
would be nice to have the option to use them on the PC too.)

Thanks!  I think today will be the day to solve this, finally.  Then we will be
able to educate the Microsoft guy (who really has put a lot of time into this).
