Please don't be so pessimistic about CC...many progress have been made in recent years (...and don't forget Deep Blue outcomes). The achille's heel of Fritz ,where the arrow of Vladimir Kramnik is pointed to, is the endgame long range planning: this is quite common also in other chess programs apart from Fritz. The cleverness of Kramnik is to steer the game in that direction and then "magistrally" outplay Fritz in a quiet pawn endgame. Programmers and CC Researchers still have "room for improvement" in this difficult but fascinating discipline. w.b.r. Otello
