Subject: Did we expect anything really different?

For the most part the game score in the Kramnik vs Fritz is what I expected.

Did you really believe that Kramnik was going to lose or draw this match? Come
on now.. he had the program in advance to learn it's weaknesses and how to
create winning positions.

Alexander Kure is a great book creator, but can not out book Kramnik. There _is_
a reason he is the #2 player in the World ( According to FIDE ). I would expect
almost anyone in the top 10 players in the world to do the same as Kramnik has
done thus far.

Computer programs are terrific at shorter time controls vs humans. This is point
proven by Scrappy on ICC ( Robert Hyatt's Crafty that only plays humans ).
Once you lengthen the time control to tournament styles the computer's advantage
of raw power decreases dramatically.

Chess programs have come along way since Deep Blue. There is little doubt about
that. Fritz is doing the best that the software can do vs Kramnik. No amount of
hardware is going to change what is happening. The software's "knowledge" is
what has got it this far and into the hole that it will not dig itself out of.

On the other side of the fence is the incredible amount of knowledge that
programmers are going to attain from this fiasco. They will be able to see where
Fritz or their programs are lacking and close the holes that are there. If I
were Amir Ban I would be looking at this as a chance to close possible holes
that he might not have known where there. You also have to figure that Kasparov
is looking at this and licking his chops. He has Kramnik exposing the very
weaknesses most of us knew existed and is waiting in the wings to prove he can
do better.

Frankly I am happy that Fritz is losing. After Deep Blue beat Kasparov ( Tongue
in cheek ) there was a consensus that computer programs were not going to be
defeated by a human. That computing power overcame the human brain. Obviously
that has not happened. We will see how the remaining game take shape but I do
not expect better results.

Kramnik has a comfortable 2 point lead. I would almost expect him to draw the
rest, take his money and run. If Fritz were to play as it has I can see him just
running the match and winning every single game.

So I ask again.. did you really expect more?
