In a French Tarrasch Mchess 7.1 proved to be well able to put some heavy pressure on Junior5. But despite a wildwest middlegame with Junior dancing on a very thin line Junior finally got away with only losing one pawn, and then defending well enough to reach a draw with this pawn down. So this draw was anything else than boring: Mchess 7.1 - Junior 5.0 [C06] 40/120, 29.08.1998 Wuppertal [DF] 44032kB, Power.ctg (Mchess with 63 or 64 Mb Hash) 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 Nf6 4.e5 Nfd7 5.Bd3 c5 6.c3 Nc6 7.Ne2 cxd4 8.cxd4 f6 9.exf6 Nxf6 10.Nf3 Qb6 11.0-0 Bd6 12.Nc3 0-0 13.Re1 Bd7 14.Bg5 Kh8 15.Na4 Qa5 16.a3 Nxd4 17.Nxd4 Bxa4 18.b3 Qc3 19.Bc2 Bd7 20.Nxe6 Rfe8 21.Re3 Qc8 22.Nxg7 out of book 22...Rxe3 23.Bxf6 Be5 24.Qh5 Qxc2 25.Bxe5 Rxe5 26.Qxe5 Qe4 27.Qf6 Qg6 28.Nh5+ Qxf6 29.Nxf6 Bc6 30.Rd1 Rd8 31.Rd4 Kg7 32.Nh5+ Kg6 33.g4 Re8 34.Nf4+ Kg5 35.f3 Re3 36.h4+ Kf6 37.Nxd5+ Bxd5 38.Rxd5 Rxf3 39.Rb5 b6 40.Kg2 Rc3 41.a4 Kg7 42.Kf2 Rh3 43.h5 Rc3 44.b4 Rb3 45.g5 Rh3 46.h6+ Kg6 47.a5 bxa5 48.Rxa5 Rh4 49.b5 Rf4+ 50.Ke3 Rf7 51.Kd3 Re7 52.Kc4 Rf7 53.Kc3 Rd7 54.Kb3 Rc7 55.Kb4 Kh5 56.Ka4 Rc1 57.Kb3 Rc5 58.Rxa7 Rxb5+ 59.Kc4 Rxg5 60.Rxh7 Rg4+ 61.Kd5 Rg6 62.Ra7 Rxh6 63.Ra8 Kg4 64.Ke4 Re6+ 65.Kd4 Kf5 66.Rf8+ Rf6 67.Rh8 Rd6+ adjud. ½-½ Game5 with white against Hiarcs6 Dos (63/64 Mb Hash) soon developed into a risky Petroff line in the original Hiarcs-DOS book. The arising position leaves white with bishop and knight against a black rook and two pawns. I have seen some computer games where the side with the two light pieces most times had more of the game, unless the opposite pawns were especially strong. So this was not easy to handle for Hiarcs or probably any other prg. And after Hiarcs6 returned to an old weakness and put it's own king pawns into the game too early, Junior could attack pawns on one wing and the "open" king on the other: Junior 5.0 - Hiarcs6 [C42] 40/120, 31.08.1998 Wuppertal [DF] 44160kB, F5book.ctg 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.d4 d5 6.Bd3 Nc6 7.0-0 Be7 8.c4 Nb4 9.Be2 0-0 10.Nc3 Be6 11.Be3 Bf5 12.Rc1 Nxc3 13.bxc3 Nxa2 14.Rc2 Bxc2 15.Qxc2 Nxc3 16.Qxc3 c6 17.Rb1 b6 out of book 18.Ne5 Rc8 19.Bg4 Rc7 20.Bf4 g5 21.Bd2 f6 22.Be6+ Kg7 23.Ng4 Qd6 24.Bf5 h5 25.Ne3 dxc4 26.Qxc4 Qd8 27.Be4 Bd6 28.Qe2 Rh8 29.Nf5+ Kf8 30.Qf3 g4 31.Qb3 Qd7 32.Bh6+ Ke8 33.Bg7 Rf8 34.Bxf8 Kxf8 35.Qe3 Kg8 36.Qh6 Bf8 37.Qxf6 Qe8 38.Re1 Qf7 39.Qg5+ Kh8 40.Nh4 Rd7 41.Ng6+ Kg8 42.Bf5 Rd6 43.Ne7+ Kh8 44.Bg6 Qg7 45.Qxh5+ Qh6 46.Qe5+ Bg7 47.Qxd6 g3 48.Qxg3 Bf8 49.Nf5 Qg7 50.Nxg7 a5 51.Qh4+ Kxg7 52.Re6 Bc5 53.Qh7+ Kf8 54.Re8# 1-0 Juniors games so far against Genius5 2 - 0 Mchess7.1 1 1/2 - 1/2 Hiarcs6 1-0 Next game black against Hiarcs6 Kind regards from Dirk
