Deep Fritz may not be necessarily weaker compared to Deep Blue. If the match rules of Fritz vs Kramnik were applied in Kasparov vs Deep Blue, it would be a totally different story. If Kasparov knows that Deep Blue can miss drawing combinations, then he would look for it in their game 2 encounter. Kasparov will have more rest and he would not crack up in game 6. The programmers, being able to change the engine parameters is also a big factor. I don’t think deep Blue can solve Kramnik’s Berlin Defence. I would really love to see Kramnik defending the Berlin against Deep Blue.
