The question is, "what does 'up to' mean?"  IE does 12(6) mean 12 plies in
software,
6 plies in hardware _always_?"  Or does it mean "12 plies in software, and
2,3,4,5 or
6 plies in hardware depending on something else?"  Or does it mean "12 plies in
hardware,
plus a max of 6 in hardware" where the "max" is simply an observed value for
that specific
search (ie like some programs show you the max depth they ever reach).

It is still a bit ambiguous, IMHO...
