Even if Fritz6 is not an authority on Q-P endgames .... a) it would have had to overcome that handicap as White to beat VK b) it's the best player in my house, and Maybe there's a principle here that, if you are defending, you are v reluctant to push pawns and take the fight to your opponent. Then maybe, you'd like the 'prospective remaining wP' to be on the file least likely to yield a win - the h file - and/or likely to cede the deepest and most difficult win? These two principles might conflict. On a 15-ply Fritz6 search, 37...Qa6/Qc2/Qc4 rank alongsde 37...f5. If analysing the game, Karsten will surely cover this. Any ECE owners out there? Sadly, we were denied the QP-ending, and the possibility that Fritz might have had to choose between 'harder draws for Black' and 'easier draws for Black' in a QP-Q endgame. g
