For instance, if an ocean of people complain, it might get more moderator attention, despite being pretty mild. Perhaps the tastes of the readers are not the same as the moderators. Or if even one person is clearly hurt by some posting and it seems a charter violation, it might be instantly dealt with. Without any notification of the moderators, probably not a lot is going to happen, except by accident. I read only a small fraction of the messages, and I think it is pretty surely the same for the other moderators. And even if I read it, I might not notice that something is wrong. I have even had my own posts deleted on several occasions. My notion of insult in violation of the charter is that the attack should be personal. For instance: "Joe -- you are an utter moron!" is a personal insult. On the other hand: "Joe, that idea is pure and utter idiocy!" is not a personal insult. Rather than attacking the person, it is attacking the idea. I don't care for vulgarity and will delete posts when it occurs and someone draws my attention to it. Perhaps the other moderators care less. Of course, people have different sensitivities. I have had someone complain to me about my use of the word 'crap' and who is to say that that my (ab)usage is not as bad or worse than that of anyone else? In short, I think for the most part, moderation is just going to be a judgement call by the CCC moderators. (Personally) I have never seen you post anything even bordering on abusive. I can tell that Rolf gets under your skin a bit. But personality clashes are to be expected.
