Hsu admits that DT's evaluation might not have been as good as even the commercial programs of that time. They also had a pretty bad opening book back then. Even still, have you read the explanations as to why they played the losing moves against Fritz in 1995? In any case, one game played 7 years ago has zero statistical significance, even if they were the same programs that would play today. If they had beat Fritz in 1995, would you claim DB '97 was better than Fritz '02 based on that one game? Or if the thing in 1995 were called something completely different, would you still say Fritz beat Deep Blue?
