Subject: Junior5 "welcome match" (game 6)

Author: Dirk Frickenschmidt

I find this Nimzo-Indian game quite remarkable. Hiarcs6 with its nice positional
skills was overplayed in a middlegame where it had a slight advantage for a long
time. But Junior was succesful in defending against all threats and finally,
around move 35, managed to get a balanced position and begin a winning counter
attack.

Results so far:
Genius5 2 - 0
Mchess7.1 1 1/2 - 1/2
Hiarcs6 2-0

I know this is stastically irrelevant. Anyway, looking at the fact that Junior
has not lost a single game so far and just played one draw, the score of 5 1/2 -
1/2 in favour of Junior might look a bit too much like a "welcome" (a somehow
unreal result of a "welcome tournament"). Be assured that I have not expected
such an outcome (though I soon saw that Junior is quite strong now) and that I
publish the games just as they occur. I have not influenced them in any way, and
I have not made any choice (like replacing possibly boring games if they occur
or replay to get certain openings or middlegame types) while testing.

Trying to play the next autoplayer games against Fritz5, I had to face a
somewhat ironical situation.
Having the autoplayer on both sides proved not to be sufficient for testing.
Reason: Both Fritz programs (the new Fritz 5-32 surface for Junior5-32 as well
as the original Fritz5 on the other Computer) insist to have the CD with endgame
tables in the drive. I am sorry I only own one Fritz CD. Frankly I don't see
much sense in this restriction, simply because I don't think that the endgame
tables have much effect even on SSDF testing. For now I see no other reasonable
choice than playing two engine-engine games and playing two autoplayer
tournament games in the usual way later.

Kind regards
from Dirk
