I know you have stated that you prefer real pieces, but you should really
consider trying a Palm and Chess Tiger (you can find it at
http://www.chesstiger.com).

Moving the pieces with the stylus is extremely convenient, and setting up a
position with the stylus is the most convenient way. It's even better than
setting up a position with a mouse on a PC, and more convenient than with real
pieces, I can tell you.

A Palm Zire + Chess Tiger will cost you $119. You will get a real, professional
chess program, with 8 trainer levels able to adapt to your strength. And with
them you will definitely improve your chess.

Chess Tiger offers a full screen view which is very readable. You can switch to
other views with more info on the thinking process. You'll never risk to lose
any piece!

The chess program is upgraded on a regular basis, and the updates are free. And
you will be able to use your Palm for other purposes, as Chess Tiger will use
only 15% of its available memory.
