Clearly, this match is a significantly better result than DB '96, which lost to GK without the human having had any prior practise against the computer. In terms of the '97 DB, I'd say it's about equal: it didn't win like DB did, but VK did get to practise against the computer before the match. Conclusion: Fritz 2002 is about equal to DB '97 in chess playing strength. There can now be no denying that PCs have reached SGM (super grand master) strength. -g
