(1) Bob, I hope you don't get thrown off by the poll. The problem is not with
the CCC membership itself. The poll itself was badly flawed.
(2) In the first place, the poll was ill-conceived and should have been "run by
you" before being posted. Someone apparently exercised very poor judgement and
owes you an apology.
(3) You should be content with the knowledge that your intentions were
excellent. You only have to answer to yourself, and if religeous, to God!
(4) You have made a very significant contribution to the field of chess software
programming by creating your code and making it available to the public on the
internet. I do not know how to estimate the impact that has had, but am sure
that it is FAR from negligible. You know that, and that knowledge should make
you feel good.
(5) Polls are often very misleading, as this one was. If the questions asked
are not very carefully constructed, they can give very misleading results. If
the poll had been constructed properly, it would have shown that there is
widespread appreciation on CCC for the efforts you have made w.resp.to Crafty.
A pity that the poll did not ask the right questions.
(6) The work you have done with Crafty on the various chess servers has
undoubtedly also had a very positive impact.
