Bf8 and some inconsequential meanderings at various points) Deep Fritz was able to not play like a computer and to mitigate anti-computer play. the last of which is remarkable in itself, and also: 4. The psychological impact on playing strength of playing a machine over a long period is unquantified but clearly not negligible. It would be a very interesting exercise to put all eight games in front of people who weren't aware of them and ask them to identify who was the human and who was the computer in each case. As I remember Helmut Pfleger did something like this 20 years ago and, even then, the participants were not 100 per cent correct; I suggest the figure would be much lower now. Alastair
