Have a look at <a href="http://wind.prohosting.com/chessweb/">The Distributed Chess Project</a> where we try to create chess-playing artificial neural networks using distributed evolutionary algorithms. Similarly to other distributed computing projects on the web, anybody can participate by running a program that can be <a href="http://wind.prohosting.com/chessweb/HTML/downloads.html">downloaded</a> from the project server. Just give it a try!
