I have now discovered that my W98se system behaves the best with a small tablebase cache size, 1MB. So my ChssBase.ini file reads... [Tablebase] Path=C:\TABLEBASES CacheSizeKB=1024 My hard drive is much quieter. My computer remains more responsive. The memory drain is much reduced, and no longer a serious problem. I don't see any decrease in performance of Fritz7 offhand, but haven't tested it scientifically. WP [But the Fritz7 variation board continues to cause fatal exceptions occasionally. I wonder why they haven't fixed this?]
