It really depends upon program what is faster. I have measured big differences on the new P4s for different software. For example Warp was very fast on it, Insomniac i could not test because it never prints out the time correctly, DIEP was pretty fast on it too. On the new p4's when run single cpu the difference is a factor 1.5 versus K7; so 2Ghz K7 is equal to a 3Ghz P4 In short the question for 2.8Ghz P4 would be whether there is a 1.867Ghz K7 available. If there is a 1.9Ghz K7 available, then the K7 is faster, if there is a 1.8Ghz K7 available then the K7 is slower. Note that 'MP' is used for K7s. 'Xeon' is used for intel. This Xeon 2.8Ghz dual is very fast for sure, for the MOMENT. For companies of course price is irrelevant, and i would then advice this dual, for persons who have to watch the price, the dual K7s are less than half the price of Xeons. Note that the 2.8Ghz P4 has been ordered here already and not yet delivered. That's the SINGLE cpu P4. Not even talking about the dual Xeon. So for the moment the fastest thing i can get is a dual K7 in the shops. Note that usually in USA you can quicker get new hardware than here. That's weird, knowing there is a factory in germany, just over the border here.
