I am also doing a thesis now, and before I arrived at this final topic, i was choosing between Computer chess, along with databases and others. I almost chose COmputer chess, but my adviser advised me to take the other ones. I was supposed to do a comparative study onthe different programming styles and algorithms used in computer chess, and how they perform in real tournament play vs humans, computers, or simply test suites.
