Hi everyone. Thanks for your input about potential thesis topics in computer chess. My general impression is that if I'd like to make progress in one of the fundamental areas of computer chess (e.g. search algorithms), I'd better first actually make the progress, and then sign up for the thesis. It sounds like making a commitment to make progess in an already well-explored area of computer chess, without actually being certain that you can make progress, is not a good idea. Thanks. Travers
