Sorry, but I think that you calculations are wrong. It is true that Bell only had a rating of about 1200 points at four plys, but today there are programs that have a much higher rating at the same depth. My own program, which was written in Basic has a rating of about 1600 points at four plys and it is not the strongest by any means. The orginal Sargon 1 had a rating of 1100 points and it only searched 2 plys. When Sargon II came out, it searched 3 plys and had obtained a rating of about 1450 points. Bell as a program was very crude by todays standards. Bill
