Programs use more time after a fail low and it is a correct decision but I do not know about single program that use always more time at slower time control(I hope that my next movei is going to be the first) How much time does your program use for it's move when it is not in book in the following situation(assume that the position is the same position and the question is only to say when it use more time) 1)5 hours/1000 moves+1 hour/rest of the game 2)2 hours/40 moves+2 hours/rest of the game 3)2 hours/40 moves+10 minutes/40+110 minutes/rest of the game 4)2 hours/80 moves+2 hour/rest of the game 5)2 hours/game Common sense tells me that you should have time(1)>time(2)>time(3)>time(4)>time(5) I suspect that a lot of programs are going to get time(1)<time(2)=time(3)>time(4)<time(5) other programs may do another mistake and have as a rule time(3)=time(4)=time(5) I doubt if you are going to find a single free or commercial program with time(4)>time(5) Uri
