IMHO crafty is very special. It can not easyly be compared with anything else
because crafty is a reserch project and its a work in progress.
I don't want Bob Hyatt to stop his work only for producing a CD with some fancy
features. The poll was poor because the questions didn't take account to the
real benefits of crafty.
Why I like crafty:
1. Crafty runns on several platforms. I use it on
IBM hardware AIX, SUN Solaris, Silicon Graphics IRIX, PC WinNT
2. Crafty runs on a multiprocessor system. If Bob Hyatt succeeds in making
Crafty better it may become the strongest program available.
3. Crafty gives anybody the possibility to make suggestions, do testing and
do some help to make crafty better. This results often in critic, however,
it may be of some help (I hope so).
4. Crafty comes with source. You can compile crafty yourself with the proper
compiler swithes - so crafty is not crippled down on a fast processor.
I always feel a kind of stupidity when people want to tell Bob Hyatt that he
can make some $$. Money is not everything.
As someone who has critizised crafty in several ways I want to thank Bob Hyatt
for his work and encourage him to continue. There are a lot of examples for
free software that is considerably better than commercial software.
