It should not change one bit, in fact. However, there are some known bad things to do when using winboard: 1. running another chess engine on the same machine at the same time. This simply doesn't work. 2. if you are logged on to a chess server, typing in the ICS window will kill crafty's performance, because winboard takes a good bit of time to handle the keyboard input plus sending/receiving stuff from the chess server, which slows crafty *way* down... 3. don't forget hash size. Winboard takes memory. Maybe enough that your default (crafty.rc file) hash size becomes too large to fit into real memory and makes things start paging..
