For that, it's useful to study the WinBoard help. Quicktip for matches: First,
start WinBoard with only one engine, and set the desired options for the match,
most important the time controls, autosave options and -file name, ponder off is
recommended for matches with one CPU. Close WinBoard, restart and enter i.e.
"/mg 10" for a 10 games match in the text area in the startup dialogue, where
you can choose the 2 engines too. The rest will run automatically.

(There are several different ways to do that, i.e. via command line options, but
the above is IMO comfortable. The WinBoard help has all the details.)

Note, that engine specific options (hash size, learning...) can be set in the
ini files of the engines each. It will be necessary to study their docs a bit
for the details, if something isn't self-explanatory.

No, it is installed just like Ruffian. See also my example in the other posting,
which contains Crafties. Add the "xboard" parameter like shown there (I'm not
100% sure at the moment if it's necessary, but I have good experience using it).

Also, you can do a web search for word like "winboard" "chess engines" etc.
which should bring up some websites with explanations, ratings, tools, "how
to...", etc.

For example http://wbec-ridderkerk.nl/index.html
