I have long advocated a payment schedule that pays dramatically more for better
results (and thus dramatically less for worse results). One possibility (off
the top of my head):

Score 6.0-2.0 or better against DF: win $1,000,000.
Score 5.5-2.5 win $750,000.
Score 5.0-3.0 win $500,000.
Score 4.5-3.5 win $250,000.
Score 4.0-4.0 win $100,000.
Score 3.5-4.5 win $25,000.
Score 3.0-5.0 or worse: win NOTHING.
