If I play against player who is 100 elo behind me in a swiss tournament the player who plays against me is in average better than his(her) rating. The point is that I play against a player with the same number of points as myself. It is possible that the opponent got the same number of points thanks to luck but it is also possible that the opponent got the same number of points because of the fact that the opponent is strong. The average result is that the opponent is stronger than what the rating list suggest. It means that the expected result against a random player who is 100 elo weaker than me is better than the result that is suggested by games. Uri
