...then the top programs running on the fastest PCs are clearly getting results comparable to the top GMs. That's not to say anything about the quality of their chess play or their understanding of the game. Just their overall performance in real-world tournaments and matches, given that humans (even GMs) blunder, get tired, get tempted to play sacs that may be unsound, get distracted, get bored, get ill, etc. When you add up all these human weaknesses, they may just about equal the lack of understanding that even the best programs still often exhibit. I also think that even when computers' performance ratings reach the level of 200+ Elo above the top human GMs, that the GMs will still win some games in a way not unlike Kramnik's 2 wins in the recent match. The number of GM losses will increase, but the number of GM wins will not decrease very quickly due to the different nature of those wins (i.e., the computer is not likely to be helped much by more raw CPU power).
