Subject: Potential Survey Questions

How's this for a survey question: The next time you purchase a computer, would
you be more likely to buy a computer with multi-processors if your favorite top
commercial chess program (Rebel, Fritz, etc.) supported this feature?

Another question: would you be more likely to buy a commercial chess program
that supported multi-processors over one that did not?

Personally, if Rebel or Fritz came out with support for multi-processors, I
would probably go out and buy a 2 or 4 processor machine. Assuming a
4-processor machine gave you at least 3x speed improvement, that's most likely
an extra-ply of search right there and another 30 to 60 ELO points.

Ed Schroder recently was generous enough to answer my question about future
multi-processor support. He said that (paraphrased) he would offer the feature
when their was a market for it. I would like to encourage all the commercial
programmers to CREATE the market for it.
